What is a blepharoplasty?
Upper blepharoplasty is the term used for facial rejuvenation of the upper eyelids and lower blepharoplasty similarly for the lower eyelids. Treatments which improve the fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes can also be very rejuvenating. (link – see non-surgical treatments).

The upper and lower eyelids age differently. Upper eyelid blepharoplasty frequently involves removal of excess skin and muscle from the upper eyelid. Some people have puffy upper eyelids due to excess fatty tissue which can also be removed. The position of the eyebrow (which droops as one ages) must be considered at the same time. Lower blepharoplasty is usually performed for patients who develop bagginess or puffiness of the lower eyelid. if the midface or cheek area has also aged significantly, then a midface lift, which addresses both the lower eyelids and cheek, may be more appropriate. (Link – Midface lift)
